Hello! My name is Cathy and I work at the ACS, Glasgow Royal Infirmary. At the biggest clinic in Scotland, I work as part of an awesome team of support staff, practitioners, trainees, Clinical Scientists in both Embryology and Andrology and our Lead Clinical Scientist. There is also an amazing sense of shared culture nationally in Embryology and I love being part of that.

Healthcare Science Week is another opportunity for me to really appreciate just how lucky I am to do this job. What can be better than having such a positive impact on people’s lives by helping them start a family?! No two days are the same and I get to exercise my (otherwise annoying!) attention to detail in a place where it is really appreciated. There are always more opportunities for learning, more qualifications to achieve, more experience to gain – the sky really is the limit! I love working with our precocious junior members of staff and learning as much from them as they do from me, they really keep me on my toes!

I have been asked to speak at my child’s school as part of Healthcare Science Week and I love the thought that I may inspire a future generation of scientists in such a rapidly expanding area of research and healthcare.

Hopefully they won’t just think I’m a bit strange with my cuddly toy eggs and sperm!
